Each year, our department partners with the Macomb Intermediate School District to celebrate Manufacturing Day. The initiative continues to grow, and this year it involved more than 1,600 students from across the county touring 56 local host sites to learn about careers in modern manufacturing. This year also included a special visit from U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr.
Manufacturing Day is a national celebration of modern manufacturing and the great careers it offers. Our goal is to help manufacturers inspire the next generation of our workforce to consider a career in this industry.
Featured event for Manufacturing Day from the Planning and Economic Development Department.
Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) is a national campaign designed to increase awareness about the important role of manufacturing in our economy while dispelling a misperception that jobs in the industry are dirty, dangerous and low paying. The ultimate goal is to close the skilled labor gap by connecting the next generation of employees – and their influencers – to today’s manufacturing environment.
Macomb County success stories.
High school students from across Macomb County will learn more about careers in manufacturing thanks to the efforts of a group of manufacturers, educators and economic developers. Motivated by a desire to expose young people to the interesting and well-paying jobs offered by the industry, the group is looking for additional manufacturers to get involved in hosting tours on October 3, 2014.
