Third Annual Macomb Business Awards is Tuesday, Feb. 10

With 53 nominees hoping to bring home a crystal award, Macomb County’s preeminent event to celebrate business will be held from 8-10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township.

County Executive Mark A. Hackel will join with an anticipated crowd of 400 business leaders to celebrate businesses that are thriving and growing in Macomb County.  Other special guests include:

  • Major General Gwen Bingham, Commanding General for U.S. Army TACOM LCMC will deliver a keynote address
  • Steve Arwood, new president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has a message to share
  • David Girodat, chair of Advancing Macomb
  • Huel Perkins, anchor for WJBK Fox 2-Detroit returns as emcee

“Strong businesses are essential to the quality of life we enjoy here in Macomb County,” said Executive Hackel.  “Their efforts to gain a competitive advantage through the execution of strategic planning makes them good neighbors and job providers for us all.”

The Macomb Business Awards recognizes businesses in six categories:  Champion of Workforce Development, Corporate Citizen, Diversification Leader, Efficiency Expert, Model of OneMacomb and Startup Business of the Year.

Nominations were accepted through December and reviewed by a panel of judges including Cindy Goodaker, executive editor for Crain’s Detroit Business; Julie Gustafson, executive director for the Macomb-OU INCubator; Dr. Jim Jacobs, president of Macomb Community College; and Gene Lovell, president of First State Bank.

“We received some incredible applications,” said Stephen N. Cassin, executive director of the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development.  “It is inspiring to see how hard our companies are working to make their businesses successful.”
