Macomb County is coordinating its fourth annual celebration of MFG Day on Oct 6, 2017.  Last year, thanks to the willingness of 53 great companies to get involved, more than 1,700 high school students visited plants and learned about career opportunities.

Macomb County’s effort is made possible by a dedicated planning committee of area leaders from industry, education and government.

Ready to host a tour on Oct 6 2017?

Friday, October 6, 2017

Macomb County plans to celebrate MFG Day in a big way and we need your help!

Manufacturing Day ( is a national celebration of modern manufacturing and the great careers it offers.  Our goal is to help manufacturers inspire the next generation of our workforce to consider a career in this industry.  This year, our goal is to provide an opportunity for 1,700 high school students to visit area plants where they will see manufacturing in action and meet people who make things.  Will you help?

We need host sites that are willing to offer a guided tour(s) for up to 30 students and the teachers or guidance counselors that will supervise them.

This is your opportunity to let the next generation of our workforce know that interesting and rewarding jobs await them.  Host sites may choose to offer a morning tour and/or an early afternoon tour.  A tour lasts from 90-120 minutes.  Suggested activities include:

  • Welcome/Safety Rules/Meet our Company for the entire group – this is a great time for company leaders to talk about what the company does, who they hire and what they offer for employees, especially if there are programs in place to help employees advance.

  • Develop three sub-tours that highlight different work areas and careers (including “front office” staff) so that students can rotate through each.  This allows for smaller, more manageable groups of ten.

  • Provide opportunities for students to interact with employees who are enthusiastic about their jobs as well as a chance to see “product life cycle” in action.

Are you ready to sign up?  Please complete our commitment form and someone will be in touch soon.

SAVE the DATE!  Orientation Breakfast on September 14 so that host sites can meet in person with school contacts to finalize plans for a successful tour.  Details to follow.
