I actually have a lot to be thankful for this year. My mother was having difficulty walking and when I took her to the doctor, he took an x-ray of her hip. Based upon the results of the x-ray, we proceeded to the emergency room at Henry Ford Macomb (this occurred on Aug. 14).  In addition to the hip problem, she also had an infection in her hip. They replaced her hip with a cement spacer, and she had to have six weeks of intravenous antibiotics.  My mother is currently in a short-term rehab facility and is due to come home possibly Friday, Nov. 14. My mother is 89 years old.

During my mother's absence from the home, my father was experiencing difficulty breathing, causing us to take him into emergency at Henry Ford Macomb. My father was placed on a ventilator, and they were having great difficulty weaning him off the ventilator. Fortunately, they were able to get him off the ventilator. Currently, he is in the rehabilitation section of Henry Ford Macomb and doing well. My father celebrated his 90th birthday in the hospital. -- Lynn Arnott-Bryks, Facilities and Operations director

I am thankful that our Macomb Veterans Action Collaborative membership is growing, and as a group, we are meeting the challenging needs of veterans with housing, food, grants, jobs and resources. -- Laura Rios, Veteran Services chief veteran services officer

I am incredibly grateful for working with such a great staff at Community Corrections for the last year. The work we do in the criminal justice system takes great commitment and they show that on a daily basis. I am also thankful for my amazing family and the exciting things they have to look forward to this upcoming year! -- Barbara Caskey, Community Corrections director
