Macomb County celebrates National Manufacturing Day on October 4
Macomb County hosted one of eight events held in Michigan to celebrate the significant impact of manufacturing on our economy.
County Executive Mark Hackel invited local media to rediscover the modern age of manufacturing by inviting them to tour three area plants. “Many people have an antiquated view of what it is like to work inside a manufacturing facility,” said Hackel. “I can tell you firsthand that these are clean, safe and modern facilities where people take a lot of pride in making things.”
The day was organized to coincide with a national awareness campaign spearheaded by the National Association of Manufacturers; Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International; and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership. More than 2,000 events were held across the nation.
The resulting coverage, featured below, helped to shed light on the industry as a whole and the good-paying jobs that it offers.
And to those manufacturers who sent a representative to join us for a frank discussion about manufacturing in the U.S.A.:
Great Fresh Foods Company
Ideal Technology Corporation
M&M Turning & Manufacturing Company
The Paslin Company
Proper Group International
PTI Engineered Plastics
The message from participants was clear: we need to do more to get more young people interested in manufacturing. As a follow-up, department staff will be meeting with officials from the Macomb Intermediate School District to see what can be done to expose more students to the many career opportunities offered by the industry. Stay tuned for new developments!
